Modern Ivory Netsuke:

All of the netsuke in this book are modern ivory netsuke, carved from Mammoth ivory which is at least 10,000 years old. Netsuke from very famous carvers are available at reasonable prices, even today, in this medium, for those who have the ability to see beauty in small things. Every netsuke in this book is in my own personal collection, or has passed through my hands to avid collectors, like my co-author Professor Katona. Each netsuke is hand carved, well balanced to stand on its own, full of exacting detail, perfectly proportioned, and worthy someday of being in a museum’s collection. One has only to look at the facial expressions on some of these modern netsuke to know that one is in the presence of true art.
